Saidin yawned and stretched, blinking sleepily as he rolled over onto his belly. Looking around the den, the first thing he saw was Kota's rabbit, still untouched. He merely stared at it for a minute, uncomprehending. Well, maybe she was saving it– it was possible she wouldn't be hungry right away, if she hadn't eaten much for a time her appetite might have shrunk.... Shaking himself vigorously to both free his coat of debris and wake himself up more fully, Saidin went to the entrance and carefully re-adjusted the briars to make his way outside. "Kota?" He called, not bothering to keep his voice down. They had been the only wolves in the area, after all. When no reply immediately came he began sniffing the air, trying to track her. "Kota?!" The exclamation burst out before he could stop it, surprised at how faded her scent was. Why would she leave and let him sleep? He didn't need the nap... still, she'd be coming back. She'd left her catch in the den. A second scent caught Saidin's attention as he turned back toward the briar strands, so faint he almost missed it. Peering closely at the thorns, his tail rose stiffly to rest parallel with his spine as his ears flattened. There was a tiny smear of blood on one of the vines. Kota couldn't have hurt herself... unless she'd been in a hurry to leave? But why? The large wolf was bewildered, worried, and uncertain. What had happened to his new friend??

Bruno's mind was in a panic at this point. He wasn't so much as worried about the smell hindering in the distance. His body was beginning to deteriorate from the inside from a loss of appetite. His stomach finally growled and cried for a small, bitter sweet meal. His attention span was withering and he couldn't take much more of just sitting around-- and waiting for things to come to him. The food was abundant around the area so he figured that leaving the vix to deal with her own issues would be a much better solution while he clears his mind of wandering thoughts and finds something to munch on.
Bruno slowly pulled a 180 and trotted on his marry way. Feeding his newly aquired appetite for flesh was his first priority at this point.

Unable to find any hint at the den as to why Kota had disappeared, Saidin widened his search, ears twitching at every little sound before identifying and dismissing the scurrying rodents and rustling leaves and the occasional bird. He drew up when, at last, some decent distance from the hidden den, he caught the scent of another wolf– one he didn't know. The other wasn't nearby anymore, having passed through without finding the den. Face shifting into a frown, Saidin looked around indecisively for a moment before shoving his muzzle into the air and releasing a loud, long, searching howl that reluctantly faded away only when he had liberated every scrap of breath in his lungs. Kota had to hear that, he thought smugly, as well as the new male and any other wolves relatively close that he hadn't yet detected. Ears attentive for any replies to his call, he set off tracking the unknown wolf, having little else to do in the meantime. He could still explore, and return to the den after nightfall to see if Kota had returned.

--------------------- x --------------------- Her chest heaved with effort, body lying within the shadow of the den. Her eyes remained closed, audits erected. Her attention remained solely on her surroundings, listening for any trace of the fearful wolf. Of course- that was considering it really was a wolf. The fear within the small femme slowly began to subside, logic and reasoning that she had momentarily forgotten returning. Both her breath and body were severally shaky, but she was alive… Somehow. Kota was disappointed to find Saidin not here when she returned, though realising at the same time that she had been gone for hours. And so she was still alone, not knowing where the wolf was, but ever fearful it might be near. Her paws shuffled across the dirt of the den, claws tearing at the dirt. She was young, but she wasn’t stupid. Soon she will be a year old. That had to count for something. Didn’t it? Her maw shook quickly, jaws opening a touch as she dragged the long-since killed rabbit towards her, gnawing at its cold flesh. She was right- she wasn’t stupid. She was idiotic. Beyond idiotic! What had she done? She had smelt nothing within the area, but it didn’t mean it didn’t see her slip into the confines of the den... An annoyed whine broke the silence within the fleeing stale light, finishing the rabbit. She had lay in wait of Saidin for a while, recovering what little strength she retained from fleeing the ‘wolf’ and starvation; both were the most wearying activities she had ever need to have performed. Something she wished she’d never have to do again. Fretting around with the knowledge of her stupidity wasn’t comforting in her condition; of course not. So she wasn’t going to just lay here waiting for something to happen. Saidin’s scent was strong. Maybe strong enough to go after him and even attempt to find him- she never knew. Maybe he would forgive her for running off without him. Not that she was planning to tell him she wasn’t planning on return.
